Report: Oliver Bonk and Hunter McDonald to Make NHL Debut Tonight

The Philadelphia Flyers announced this morning that they have recalled five players from the Philadelphia Phantoms.

Forwards Anthony Richard and Jacob Gaucher, defensemen Hunter McDonald and Oliver Bonk, and goaltender Aleksei Kolosov have all been called up to the big club.

The two defenders, McDonald and Bonk, will make their NHL debut in tonight’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.

McDonald was a sixth-round pick in 2022. Standing at 6’4″ and 236 pounds, he is a punishing defender who will add both size and grit to the team. The left hander does not add much of an offensive touch to the Flyers, chipping in only six assists in 66 games this season. He is not afraid to drop the gloves and has accumulated 88 penalty minutes this season as well.

Bonk, the son of former NHLer Radek Bonk, was drafted 22nd overall by the Flyers in 2023. He is a two-way defender with six goals and 13 assists in 44 games with the Phantoms this season. He has been making waves in the AHL and quickly worked his way up the team’s prospect pool.
